Cold toes, warm heart: Tabby’s Place saves frostbitten cat

We’re not the only species getting clobbered by the cold this winter.

The polar vortex pounded a soft grey cat in central New Jersey last month. By the time the little cat staggered into a Frenchtown garage, she could barely stand due to severe frostbite.

But sunshine was just over the horizon.

Tabby’s Place: a Cat Sanctuary in Ringoes rushed to the rescue. Since the tiny cat, soon named Billie Jean, was frightened, it required patience to safely trap her and whisk her to warmth.

Neither her medical needs nor her nervous personality posed a problem once Billie Jean joined the Tabby’s Place family. The cage-free, no-kill sanctuary promises each cat that she will get all the love, patience, and world-class medical attention she needs, regardless of cost.

Billie Jean has banked on that promise. The little cat with enormous green eyes requires twice-daily bandage changes on her frostbitten feet, and will soon have surgery to remove the toes that were too damaged to save. Since Billie Jean seems to have had little positive interaction with humans in the past, the Tabby’s Place team is also pouring all their patient affection into helping her learn to trust.

The road to warmth may be long, but Billie Jean is in precisely the right place.

Tabby’s Place greatly appreciates donations to help rescue and nurture cats like Billie Jean.
