Thanks to his microchip, a Massachusetts cat named Charlie is back with his family after ending up 25 miles away from home.

Charlie disappeared from his Brookline Village home on August 8 and was found under a car in a store parking lot in downtown Foxboro the following day.

Chic 2 Chic consignment store employee Emily Feeney found the gray and white cat and gave the hungry fellow her turkey sandwich as she and her coworkers Katie Feeney and Wilma Kelly cared for the cat while they waited for Animal Control officer Sue Thibedeau to arrive

“It was in good condition. Nothing to make you suspect that he was lost,” Sue Thibedeau told the Foxboro Reporter.

Thibedeau scans every lost or stray animal she encounters in her work, and Charlie’s scan revealed the microchip implanted by the MSPCA (Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) shelter where Tamu Jackson adopted him a year ago.

Charlie spent the weekend at the Mansfield Animal Shelter  as Officer Thibedeau tried to make contact with his family.

Tamu Jackson was thrilled to learn Charlie had been found and shocked to learn how far he’d traveled.  She picked him up the day she was contacted.

Everyone assumes Charlie must have somehow hitched a ride in a truck or car and got off when the unknown vehicle stopped in Foxboro.

Emily Feeney said a woman who lives near Chic 2 Chic told her she saw Charlie in Foxboro the day he went missing.

Officer Thibedeau used the occasion of Charlie’s reunion story to recommend that everyone get their pets microchipped.
