Booval, Queensland, Australia resident Judith White was reunited with her beloved cat this week, 2 1/2 years after he got lost during the devastating 2010-2011 Queensland floods.

Goodna, where Judith was living at the time, was flooded in January of 2011, sending Judith and her cat Eddie Boy in search of shelter. Eddie was turned away from an evacuation center, so Judith left him with a friend.  She was comforted by the thought that Eddie was microchipped, but was heartbroken when he escaped from the friend’s home the first night he was there.

Eddie was a 10 week old kitten when Judith found him abandoned in a park near her home and rescued him, and he was 9 years old when he became lost.

Judith lost everything in the flood, but the only loss that mattered was that of Eddie. “Of course I cared about my things that were gone, what devastated me the most was losing my cat,” she said. “I have no children, no family, Eddie Boy was my baby.”

When Eddie disappeared, Judith returned to the Goodna park every day looking for him.

“At the beginning I went back (to the park) every day calling for him but it became too heartbreaking,” she said.

Never accepting that he may have perished,  “I always knew in my heart that he was alive,” she said.

This week, Judith got the call she waited 2 1/2 years for, when the Bellbowrie Veterinary Surgery rang up to say “We’ve got your cat.”

Bellbowrie vet wrote at Facebook, ““Eddie” the cat has been reunited today after being separated from his family from Goodna. He has been missing since the 2011 floods when the family house was destroyed. He was found in Bellbowrie, “just hanging around” and brought into our surgery where he was scanned for a microchip. The owners were ecstatic with the news and within an hour were at Bellbowrie Vet Surgery to take him home. The attached pic is of Judith reunited with Eddie.”

Judith rushed to the vet and was reunited with her pet, who she expects to live the quiet life on the couch from now on.

“This old cat and I are just going to sit around and be happy together,” she said.

“It’s a miracle, I will never ever let him out of my sight again.”

Dr Kyle Brackin, from Bellbowrie Vet, said “I have never seen someone so emotional about being reunited with their pet, it was lovely.”

Both Judith and the vet think someone has been looking after Eddie. He is clean, healthy and of good weight, and looks generally good.

  1. So happy for Judith, that she has her baby, Eddie, back again. The people that have been taking care of him, must be missing him, also. He looks like a real sweetheart, but obvioulsy he was looking for his Momma, as he was in the same neighbourhood that he disappeared from. aussienore
