The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon will host its second annual Portland, Oregon Catio Tour on Saturday, September 6, 2014. The tour visits local homes where cats have their own special outdoor enclosures. Catios are so popular these days that the 2014 tour will visit an entirely different set of properties from the initial tour in 2013.

The tour is co-hosted by the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO) and the Audubon Society of Portland.

Tour participants will see a variety of cat patios (or outdoor enclosures), both fabulous and frugal! The co-hosts hope the Catio Tour will inspire cat lovers to brainstorm ideas for building or buying their own catios so their cats can enjoy some safe outdoor time.

The Catio Tour will include nine different catios in the Portland metro area – all different than those on the 2013 Tour. A guidebook, including catio photos and construction information, as well as directions, will be provided to all participants prior to the event.

The Oregonian visited Northeast Portland resident Anya Stites and her catio, where her Oriental Shorthair rescue cats, Harry and Chrissy, can enjoy being outdoors while remaining safe.

Anya told the Oregonian that passersby are intrigued when they see her cats sleeping on the elevated walkway section, and the frequently venture up the driveway for a closer look.

Anya talks about her catio in the video below.

The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon has a photo album of various cat enclosures at Facebook that they share as an online idea book.
