Tiffany Two, the San Diego, California area cat who is the current official Guinness Records holder as oldest living cat turns 27 today, and her petmom says she is still going strong.

Tiffany Two may or may not be the actual oldest living cat – we see stories of other cats whose petparents make that claim – but her petmom Sharron Vorhees was able to provide documentation proving her age, which has been accepted by Guinness World Records. Either way, she is the recordholder and has achieved a remarkably great age.

Guinness World records named Tiffany Two as its officially sanctioned Oldest Living Cat after the death of previous record holder Poppy, who passed away shortly after receiving the honored status last year.

Sharron Voorhees, a 73 year old retired lawyer and lifelong animal lover who lives in Point Loma, California, paid $10 for Tiffany Two when she saw her in a pet store that was going out of business in 1988. Sharon says she felt an immediate connection with the cute tortoiseshell kitten when the little one looked up at her in the store.

The kitten reminded Sharron of a beloved pet who’d died from cancer at just a year old. Sharron had the original tortie cat Tiffany in the 1970s and and named her for “those glass lampshades of many colors” found on the antique Tiffany and Co. lamps.

The new kitten became Tiffany Two.

“Sometimes I wonder if she’s Tiffany One come back to live a second life. Two lives in one,” Sharron told U-T San Diego.

Sharron contacted Guinness after her sister saw the record held by Poppy, who was born in 1990. She filled out an online form and submitted proof of age, including photos, medical records, calendar notations, and records from her groomer, who has been seeing Tiffany Two since she was a baby.

Speaking with Time magazine for a story marking her cat’s birthday, Sharron said that while the 27 year old is “very docile” nowadays, she has a feisty side. When asked if Tiffany Two has always gotten along with other cats, Sharron said:

“She had sex appeal, man, I tell ya. The boys liked her, even if she was fixed. Once there was a kitten across the street, and he was just smitten with her. She was 13. He would race across the street to see her when they let him out. Man, it was a real Harold and Maude sort of thing.”

Sharron will hold a birthday party for Tiffany Two on Saturday, serving cupcakes with little fish decorations on top, goldfish crackers, liver mousse, plus champagne for the human guests.

Tiffany Two, petite at six pounds, continues to be in good health: “We take our blood pressure medications every day together. She’s probably in better shape than I am.”

Asked again recently why she thinks her cat has lived so long, Sharron said: “Oh gosh, I don’t know. She has just been so devoted to me. She would drool when I would stroke her. Sometimes I think she just doesn’t want to leave me.”
