Tamara Adlin models her cat treat bag dress and dog food bag headdress, which we expect to be the hit of the show when Tamara and her glittery mermaid gown hit the catwalk at the 10th annual RE Store Trash Fashion Show this Saturday at the New York Fashion Academy in Seattle.

The Seattleite is one of 30 designers  who will model their haute couture “trashions” at the eyebrow and awareness raising benefit which is held to bring in funds for  The RE Store, a nonprofit that salvages, buys and sells all sorts of building materials, from flooring to bowling alleys. Its proceeds, in part, fund programs such as environmental education.

“I took the risk of looking like a total crazy cat lady,” said Adlin, 42, who saved cat-treat bags for two years  before creating her masterpiece, adding “I was saving these treat bags to make into a red-carpet-worthy gown.”  She reportedly saved 50 bags with the help of friends. “My cat won’t even look at a treat anymore,” said the web designer, with what may have been a bit of hyperbole.

To construct the silvery strapless Zeigfield Girl gown, Adlin wove tiny strips from the reflective shiny silver insides of the mylar treat bags with carpet pad for the skirt.  She then cut multicolor spirals of the mylar for the bottom of the skirt, and created feathers and flowers for a magnificent showgirl headdress.

“There was a lot of hot glue involved and a lot of cursing,” said Adlin, who will make her second appearance at the annual show. “I  sewed when I could, but there were a lot of staples involved.

Thanks to Ms. Adlin, catlady fashion has never been so glamorous or amusingly louche.
