Tears of joy marked the reunion between a woman and her cat, when they saw one another again last Thursday after three months.

Tina Teixeira had been looking for Tilly since the tuxedo  cat unexpectedly slipped out of their Peabody, MA apartment in October of 2011. Tina searched, put up posters, and repeatedly checked in with the local animal shelter in her efforts to find her missing cat.

Last week, after three months, Tina got the call she had been waiting for; Tilly was at the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, waiting for her petmom to come and get her to take her home.

Denise Doucette had been caring for Tilly for a month or more, less than a mile from Tilly and Tina’s home. Denise first saw the cat running around outside; then the cat eventually started coming to Denise’s door for food, and taking shelter in her garage. Concerned about cold weather and coyotes, Denise took the cat to the shelter last week, where staff went through their lost cat records and made the identification match.

Denise was there for the happy reunion between Tina and Tilly, which took place last Thursday, January 12. The 9 or 10 year old cat was in good shape and had not lost weight in the three months she was missing.
