A thieving cat in New Zealand seems to have very specific taste in the items that she takes. Brigit, a 6-year-old Tonkinese cat, has been stealing items from an unknown neighbor in the Hamilton, New Zealand neighborhood. Brigit’s owner, Sarah Nathan, notes that since January, Brigit has stolen more than 50 pairs of socks and 11 pairs of men’s boxers. Sometimes Nathan finds one sock at the front door and one sock at the back door – evidently Brigit goes back to bring home a matching pair.
The problem has gotten so bad that Nathan has started reaching out to her neighbors to see if she can find the items’ rightful owner. Nathan has posted on Facebook and has distributed flyers to her neighbors. She’s saved most of the items and wishes to return them if an owner comes forth.
Nathan and Brigit will soon be moving, and Nathan hopes that the move will deter Brigit from stealing – they’ll be living on a two-acre property in the country. At Nathan’s previous home, Brigit’s thieving became an issue, but she was less discerning in what she brought home. Brigit turned up with items such as various underwear (men’s and women’s) and even a hockey shin pad.
Hopefully one of Nathan’s neighbors comes forward, and maybe one day Brigit will learn not to take items that aren’t hers.
