Readers were touched by the story of Roy Haddock, who lost his life while trying to help a cat. Kelsey Haddock writes with thanks and to say the family is asking that donations go a no-kill shelter in Roy’s memory.
We posted about Roy on Tuesday, in NC Man Gives His Life Trying To Save a Cat in Distress. Roy had gone out on Monday morning to help a Maine Coon cat he had seen by a riverbank. He planned to feed the cat and, possibly, to bring it hack home with him. Though Roy was a capable woodsman, he lost his footing, slipped, and drowned. Searchers found him on Tuesday. Roy was an animal lover known to go out of his way to help when a creature was in need, and he was doing exactly that when he died.
Roy’s granddaughter Kelsey wrote today, to all of us who read about her granddaddy and were touched by his selfless deeds. Kelsey says she and her family appreciate your messages of condolence, and they invite anyone who cares to make a gesture in Roy’s memory to join them in support of a wonderful no-kill shelter in their county, the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society.
Here is Kelsey’s message:
Hi, my name is Kelsey Haddock. I am one of Roy Haddock’s granddaughters. I found this website, and I just wanted to say everyone’s comments have just warmed our heart and we want to thank you for your kind words. Seeing that you guys love animals just as much as my family does, I thought I’d inform you about what we chose to do in honor of my granddaddy. We are asking everyone to make a donation to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society (3927 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, NC 28303) instead of sending flowers to us. We know this is what our granddaddy would want, and I know he would appreciate it if you made a donation to help an animal in need. Just wanted to throw that out there, and if you do happen to make a donation I would love for you to send me an email at [email protected] . Me and my family would love to thank you personally. Again, I want to thank everyone for their kind words. After reading every single comment on [the] page it just made me feel so much better. I showed everyone in the family and we are just thrilled everyone can see what a kind, loving man my granddaddy was. He will be missed, but he will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace grandaddy. I love you so much!
