Brutus the cat was a frequent sight at Morrisons supermarket in Cheshire, UK. He spent lots of time in the cat food aisle and was always happy to greet shoppers. The cat also had an adventurous side and wouldn’t hesitate to jump into shopping carts or cars.

Unfortunately, in 2013 Brutus was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease, which is incurable. Brutus passed away on January 16, 2017.

Brutus was so beloved that there is a crowdfunding campaign underway to raise money to memorialize the cat with a statue in the store. The campaign will be used to fund a permanent memorial, as well as to provide donations to local animal charities.

Brutus’ owners, Claire and Adam Owens, have received hundreds of messages since the cat’s death. Brutus had over 12,000 fans on his Facebook page. It’s clear that this very special cat had a huge influence in thousands of people’s lives.
