A Broward County, Florida Sheriff’s Office Department of Fire Rescue crew rescued a tiny kitten heard crying from a storm drain in Pembroke Park, South of Ft. Lauderdale, Tuesday evening.

A good Samaritan heard the kitten’s cries Tuesday afternoon and sought help for the trapped baby animal by flagging down the the Fire Rescue department’s Engine 27. The rescuers couldn’t reach the kitten directly so one firefighter went down a nearby manhole and a second crew member used a hose to gently encourage the kitten to move toward a spot where it could be reached.

Firefighter/paramedic Roger Stewart got hold of the kitten and brought him up to safety.

The rescuers are calling the kitten Stormy and are caring for him until they find him a home. The rescuers looked for Stormy’s Mama but she was not found.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachlis said,  “It’s definitely stealing the hearts of the firefighters.”
