Rocky the cat fought his way out of Afghanistan and into one soldier’s heart.

Scott Vanneman was deployed to Afghanistan in March 2010. One day, outside the chow hall, he saw a white kitten in a trash can digging for scraps. He “adopted” the kitten and named him Rocky. Vanneman fed Rocky tuna and asked others to watch him while he was out on patrol. He gets angry talking about the way cats and dogs are treated by the Afghans; he knew he could make a difference in Rocky’s life and brought him home to live with his family in New Jersey. Rocky just celebrated his first birthday.
