A tiny kitten found immobile on a table in a burning house and revived with oxygen at the scene, has blossomed, has found a kitty pal and has a home with one of the firefighters who saved him. Smokey and his pal both are CH kitties but that does not get in the way of their leading good and happy lives.
On April 5 we published Firefighters Rescue and Revive 2 Week Old Kitten , when Manchester UK firefighters found a tiny kitten sitting motionless on the kitchen table in a burning house, carried him outside, and gave oxygen at the scene. The kitten was named Smokey and he was given in to the care of Bolton & Bury Cat Rescue.
The story of Smoky’s rescue and the image of the tiny creature with his little head in an oxygen mask touched hearts, and the rescue sent us an update on Smoky and his condition when he visited the firefighters who saved his life.
The update, Smokey, Kitten Rescued From Fire, Reunites With the Firefighters Who Saved Him revealed that Smokey is a CH kitty, meaning he has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, or wobbly cat syndrome. CH kitties do not suffer and can lead good lives. Much of the work of CH kitty support groups and advocates is directed at letting people know that CH kitties don’t deserve to be put down because of their condition. CH kitty networking rescues cats with the condition.
Bolton & Bury Cat Rescue has sent out another update on Smokey, announcing the happy news that he has been rehomed into a perfect situation.
A beautiful 3wk old CH kitten came into Bolton & Bury Cat Rescue after having been saved from a fire in central Manchester. The firemen who arrived at the scene resuscitated the kitten with oxygen, promptly named him Smokey, and brought him into our care.
Luckily for us our cat mammy and welfare officer, Vivienne Davies, had a young mum and her brood already with her. The lovely mum, Cupid, immediately took him as one of her own and he bonded with his new family instantly. The vet recently classed him as a mild CH now.
In his time with us he went from strength to strength. The little rascal has had no problems at all regarding his so-called “disability” and it certainly hasn’t bothered him running round with his new brothers and sisters!
As you can imagine, he’s been very popular with our team and members and is now the ultimate diva!
In the purr-fect happy ending, one of the firemen fell in love with him and adopted Smokey and his best buddy, Mercury, (a tabby boy from Cupids litter)! They left us on Monday to start their new adventurous life together and we can’t wait to hear of their escapades!
As an extra piece of good fortune, we were privileged enough to have another CH kitty in our care! A beautiful tabby and white 12mth old boy called Boo Boo, who was rehomed within days!
Its such a pleasure to look after these wonderful cats and more so to educate people about them especially as they are relatively rare in the UK.
News from CH Kitty Club published the update in their June Newsletter.
Oh so great that the rescuer took him and his friend! What a great and happy story.
