Rescue Bank donates food and supplies for rescue animals and is now celebrating their 10th Anniversary. To highlight this benchmark, they are working in conjunction with their partners, like Greater Good, The Animal Rescue Site, and Freekibble, to raise one million meals for homeless cats and dogs.
Rescue Bank was started by John Kane, following 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. Kane, an animal lover, headed out to New Orleans to do whatever he could for the animals and the volunteers working to save those animals. What he realized was a lot of the higher profile animal organizations were getting the much needed attention, donations, and credit, but a majority of the work was being done by, as reported by the Houston Chronicle, “by shoestring, mom-and-pop animal rescue and foster groups.” Kane felt compassion for these groups who were struggling on some many levels, not the least of which was financial, to stay afloat.
A year later, he worked with his girlfriend, Elizabeth Asher, to come up with a way to help these smaller organizations. Rescue Bank was launched, a nonprofit to collect donated pet food and get it distributed to those small rescue groups and shelters in need. Rescue Bank has come a long way since those early days and is now a part of the Greater Good family, with Rescue Bank continuing its good an valued work.

There are several ways to support their mission and help them get to the amazing goal, simply visiting the mentioned sites. With their goal of servicing many smaller, lower profile shelters and rescues, their work is extremely important to so many in need. Small shelters and rescues can find out information about Rescue Bank on their site.
Let’s help them realize this goal, as a thank you for their good and dedicated work over the past ten years and for all the animals out there that are in need of this support.
