Utility workers came out on a Saturday today to help free a kitten trapped down a pipe next to a utility pole after a couple of guys passing by heard her meowing for help.

Two men walking by a Wendy’s fast food restaurant in Spokane, Washington’s North Division this morning heard a kitten’s cries and discovered that the little animal was trapped down a pipe next to a power company utility pole.  Unable to get the kitten out themselves, they called SpokAnimal humane society, which sent officers out to the scene.

The SpokAnimal officers sent a rope down into the pipe for the kitten to grab onto, but that didn’t work. Since the pipe was next to the utility pole, SpokAnimal called the utility company, Avista, for help. The responding Avista employee used a wire with a loop at the end and was able to bring the kitten up to safety.

SpokAnimal officers say the female kitten is about six weeks old and probably spent the night in the pipe before her rescue today. The animal organization has taken responsibility for the kitten and her care, and will make he available for adoption when she is ready.
