A 6-legged street cat gets help to lose the extra legs and find a new life.

When Pauly was rescued from the streets of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada earlier this year he was struggling to get by with a deformed hip and two extra legs dangling from his chest.

“They came right out of his chest, they were kind of connected in a V form,” Little Cats Lost Society adoption coordinator Roxanne Kolmatycki told CBC News this week.

Little Cats Lost took Pauly in and have helped him with his physical issues while guiding him to a new life as a domestic pet.

Pauly’s extra limbs, a non-functional set of back legs, hung from his chest and dragged on the ground.

“They were more inhibiting than hurting him. They stopped him from doing a lot of things, jumping and that sort of stuff,” Kolmatycki told CBC.

Pauly underwent three surgeries to correct his physical deformities, with the final surgery to remove his legs taking place in August. He is now recovered from surgery and preparing to find his forever home.

“He’s had amazing support from the public and our staff and vets,” Kolmatycki said. “It’s just been amazing, the support he’s had.”

“Based on vet checks, we are fairly certain he absorbed a twin, so (the legs were) actually part of a twin that he had absorbed. He also had three testicles,” Kolmatycki told CBC.

“He was hospitalized for approximately a week after (his surgery) to be monitored and then he came to my house and we started socializing with him — and here he is today, happy and healthy and ready for his forever home.”

Pauly’s progress is being chronicled at the Pauly’s Journey Facebook page.  That journey is greater than that of a cat who was hampered by two extra legs and was helped to become physically normal thanks to his surgeries. Pauly’s journey is taking him from being a physically encumbered street cat living a very difficult life to a happy and well-adjusted domestic cat who can trust and knows love.

Pauly has come through his physical transformation with flying colors. With that part of the journey completed, he is now continuing to learn about love and living the good life in his foster home.

He has come along so well that his friends feel he is ready to find his forever home.

Pauly ‘speaks’ to his Facebook friends and followers in this post from September 13 (which we’ve linked to below), where his foster mom writes:

Hello to all my human friends who have been so patient with me while I go through this huge transition in my life. Things are going great. You know all about my surgeries and they went well but I am so use to surviving on my own that this love thing that my foster family is teaching me is a little different. But I am getting it. I still hiss a bit but it is only because I get a little scared sometimes. The humans are really patient with me. I now found out that I have a voice and really like to use it. I don’t need to hide at the back of my kennel. Today I decided to surprise my foster mom and greet her at the front of the kennel when she came in the room. She was so happy! This was a big deal. Means that I am feeling safe after all I have been through in my life that is huge. I still have a bit to go but I have to say, I think I am doing pretty good. My foster mommy was so excited that I went a bit further and came out of my kennel. I checked out the room, got a few snuggles then went back to my bed. We will keep working on it and in no time I will be roaming everywhere. It will be good for me to get out more. Helps strengthen my muscles. That is what they tell me anyway. Stay posted for more. My foster family is a little camera happy so I am sure there will be video and pictures to show my progress. Got to love them.
Thanks for all your support!

Pauly came along with some other adoptable Little Cat Lost Society cats on Saturday, October 3 to an adoption event at the Pet Valu store in Edmonton, where he met some members of the public.
