A paralyzed kitten injured when he was hit by a car at a young age is starting a new life in Maine thanks to Pilots n Paws and the woman adopting him.

Heather Miller is Executive Director at the Houlton Humane Society in Aroostook County, Maine. She also keeps a special group of pets at home at Emerson and the Gang at the Miller’s Safe Haven.

Marvel the kitten was in Ohio when he came to Heather’s attention. Pilots N Paws pilot Greg Mantz helped bring him to Maine.

The first leg of the trip brought Marvel to Connecticut. Greg flew to Connecticut to get Marvel and bring him to Maine.

Greg has worked with Heather on a few other occasions, but he saays this was his first special needs transport as well as his first cat. The earlier transports brought dogs to Houlton.

Greg is leaving Maine for a move to Florida, so Marvel’s transport was his last flight from Maine. He paid for his own fuel as a farewell gesture.

The rest of Marvel’s transport expenses were paid for by donations.

Heather told WAGM News: “[Marvel] seemed like a perfect fit. So we got the plans in order put the request out to Pilots and Paws and Greg’s done it for me before. And it all just worked out really well for today.”

Greg said: “Pilots N Paws is an on request type system where a rescue or shelter or somebody that wants to transport a dog or an animal to be saved will request it online.”

“Well this is unfortunately my last one, I’m actually transferring to Jacksonville Florida. So I wanted to do one more with my airplane before I left.”

Heather said: “We’re hoping somebody local will step up to Pilots N Paws. It’s not something we do a lot but it helps with the transport, it gets them quicker.”

Marvel will join Heather at Emerson and the Gang at the Miller’s Safe Haven, where he is expected to fit in well.
