A little cat trapped in a locked trunk was rescued in the knick of time by two people walking past the parking lot where the trunk had been dumped.

The unidentified pair were taking a walk near a sports complex in Buxton, Maine  when they noticed the trunk in the parking lot, according to a blog post  by the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

“When they attempted to open the trunk, they heard the crying of a cat inside,” the post says. “Unable to open it on their own, they brought it to a friend’s house who opened it with a screwdriver. Sky was in the trunk, without food or water.”

“Had these concerned citizens not intervened, Sky’s story could have had a very different outcome,” the post reads.

Sky is one year old and may have been  someone’s pet. She was covered with fleas and dirt, but otherwise sound. “She is affectionate and well-socialized,” the post says.

Sky received a full medical evaluation from ARLGP staff and veterinary team, and will be available for adoption soon.

  1. So glad this adorable kitty was found and rescued. It is awful the way some “humans” do to precious animals, who depend on us for care and love. Sad that too often humans can be more cruel than animals. Animals lack the ability to decide what is the right or wrong way to treat others, yet they often show more love than some people. AND that is sad.
