Two major US organizations are taking an interest in a terrible case of animal abuse in Texas that hurt two 8 month old kittens and led to the death of one of the two.

Alley Cat Allies and HSUS are offering two substantial rewards totaling over $12,000 in the case of two mutilated kittens, one of which is recuperating after the pair were found and rescued in Bedford, Texas.

olice are investigating the mutilations of two feral kittens in the northern part of the city.

One kitten has been euthanized, but another is recovering.

A resident had trapped the kittens, which are about 8 months old, so they could be neutered and discovered that both had “very large” wounds near their genitals and legs, police Lt. David Smith, a department spokesman, said.

The kittens were trapped near the 700 block of Harwood and Spring Forest roads.

The wounds appeared to be about a month old, he said.

Commenting on the announcement of the $5,000 HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) reward, the organization’s  Texas state director, Katie Jarl, Texas state director said: “It’s unnerving to know that the individual who committed these heinous acts of cruelty is roaming freely in the Bedford community. Whoever did this to these innocent animals must be held accountable and we hope this reward will encourage someone to contact Bedford law enforcement with any information.”

Alley Cat Allies released this statement on the case last Friday:

BETHESDA, MD—Friday, April 3, Alley Cat Allies offered a cash reward of $7,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the torture and death of two kittens in Bedford, TX. Two cats, one black and one tabby, were found in a North Bedford neighborhood behind a strip mall. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bedford Police Department at 817-952-2127.

The two cats, estimated to be eight months old, had been severely and purposefully mutilated in their genital area. One of the cats was so severely injured that he had to be euthanized. The second cat, Bobby, is recovering after intensive surgery. Alley Cat Allies is paying for Bobby’s medical care and the necropsy of the deceased cat in order to assist the investigation.

“The nature of this cruelty case is particularly disconcerting,” says Becky Robinson, president and founder of Alley Cat Allies. “Intentionally killing a cat—pet, stray or feral—is against the law in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. And we offer our full support to the Bedford Police Department throughout the investigation.”

This gruesome incident is cause for alarm for the community’s safety. Psychiatric and criminological research has established a relationship between cruelty to animals and a host of other violent behaviors toward people—animal cruelty must be taken seriously. Cats are now the number one pet in America, with over 82 million cats in homes, but caring for cats extends beyond pets. According to Alley Cat Allies’ research, 25 percent of Americans have fed an outdoor cat.

“No matter where a cat lives—indoors or outdoors—they are cared about and valued,” says Robinson. “There is something inherently American about loving cats and wanting to protect them. The fact that people are actively spaying or neutering and vaccinating their cats is evidence that we are an animal loving society.”

  1. OMG….find the bastard that did this and castrate!!!!!! What a sick and vicious thing to do!

  2. This is not a comment about the atrocity committed against the two poor kittens, but just to say there is a a well known cat hating troll on here – see his long-winded rubbish post above – this person goes under several aliases, one of which is Woodsman. He is no TNR Researcher, just hates cats and people who like them. I’ve seen same type of posts on PoC Pictures of Cats website many times unfortunately. A serial pest to say the least.

  3. Hi Pippa. I recognized the writer right away and have deleted the comments. Wish I’d gotten to them sooner but they’re gone now.

  4. Karen, Thank you so much for deleting those entries.

It is sad that some individuals are so hateful in spewing such mis-guided info.

  5. So disturbing. Monsters roam freely among us. This brute will repeat this horror if not caught and put away. My heart aches for those poor kittens.

  6. Wallowing in a bliss of self-inflicted ignorance by poking your own eyes-out is a wonderful thing, isn’t it. A trap of their own making from which few can ever escape.

  7. thank you for removing the comments. I did not see them but I have heard he goes around and writes disturbing things.
