Metro News UK ran their original story about Gomez, who had been found shaking in pain in North London, in an effort to find the one-eared cat a forever home.  When rescued, the stray was rushed to Mayhew Animal Welfare where vet Dr. Emma Robinson discovered he had a severe ear infection. After an extensive three-hour surgery, which left Gomez’s inner ear intact so he could still hear, she shared, “Thankfully we got to him in time and now he is happy, healthy and, importantly, he can still hear the birds singing out in the garden.”

Gomez’s new owner Erin said, “We actually visited Mayhew to look at another cat we’d seen on the website, but as soon as we met Gomez, I fell in love. He jumped in my lap right away and sat there the whole time we were there.”

Erin continued, “He’s so affectionate and has a funny, quirky personality – we love him. He follows us around the house and takes up residence in whatever room we are in.” And to think how only a year earlier the seven-year old who had been frightened, sick, and neglected when found now has one very happy ending with a loving, caring forever family.
