On Tuesday, Riverside County Animal Services Officer Gary Pahls rescued a cat perching on a busy California freeway overpass.
Inches from a 200 foot fall, “Mira” the cat was seeking refuge from traffic by balancing on a concrete ramp over Highway 60 in Mira Loma. Pahls was able to coax the cat to safety with the help of a California Highway Patrol Officer. He was worried that Mira’s fright would prevent her from coming to him. Pahls said, “Sure enough, she was very calm and relaxed and seemed very thankful. I’m very happy she didn’t dart away and get hurt. She’s such a sweet cat.”
Due to her scrapes and road rash, Pahls thinks she might have been thrown from a moving vehicle. Worse yet, she appears to be pregnant. Mira’s identification number is A-865061 and she is being cared for at the Western Riverside/City Animal Shelter in Riverside.
