An orphaned bobcat kitten owes his life to the nursing cat who took him in. Bob, the bobcat kitten, was dropped off at Sarge’s Animal Rescue in Waynesville, North Carolina. The woman who had found the bobcat kitten noted that he was an unusual looking kitten when she dropped him off.
Rescue staff quickly realized that the kitten was actually a bobcat, and that he was in desperate need of a mother if he were to survive. The very same day that Bob arrived, Sweet Pea, a nursing mother cat and her four kittens, were also dropped off at the shelter.
Bob was introduced to Sweet Pea and the mother cat accepted the unusual kitten right away. Sweet Pea allowed Bob to nurse and Bob received regular veterinary check-ups to make sure that he was in good health.
When Bob was old enough to be weaned, he was brought to the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center on July 8th. Bob now lives in a large wire pen and is provided with wild prey. He’s learning to hunt, and when he’s ready, he will be released back into the wild. Another bobcat may also be brought in to help teach Bob how to hunt.
Bob owes his life to some very special people who stepped in when he was too young to be on his own. And, of course, to Sweet Pea, the mother cat who cared for him.
