Alarmed New York City subway riders spotted a kitten on the tracks and went into code-red mode. “I waved the conductor down and another lady came and pushed the emergency button,” Benjamin Hilario told the New York Daily News.
Hilario, 32, said he got a glimpse of the kitten followed by the frightening sight the oncoming lights of the train pulling into the station. Hilario told the New York Daily News: ‘[The train] was coming down, but it was slowing down because I think the conductor saw the cat.’
The grey-and-black kitten slipped beneath metal grate and hid. Straphangers at the Fifth Avenue station had to wait for an hour for the trains to go back into service while police arrived and rescued the cat, who was transported to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals for an examination.
The kitten has been dubbed Seven, according to the article by reporter Danny Lewis. Even better, two commuters, a mother Heather Denbow and daughter, Sólveig, were smitten by Seven and want to adopt the kitten.
