There are those days where you just need something to break it up. Or to break you up. If you don’t happen to have a KitKat bar in your desk drawer, but you do have access to a computer or some other object able to see video, then perhaps a GIF is the answer.
What is a GIF, you say? Well, for anyone under the age of, maybe 30(ish), it is just one of those things that you know about. Somehow the wonderful world of technology advances is grafted directly into the DNA if each new generation. But, that is a digression. For anyone who does not spend most of their time glued to their cell, tablet, Dick Tracy-watch, laptop, desktop, or whatever other kind of device that seems to have infiltrated society at the moment, according to UrbanDictionary.com it is defined thusly, “Graphics Interchange Format. GIFs are image files that are compressed to reduce transfer time. The proper pronunciation of the acronym is a soft “g” sound: like JIF.
The creators of the format, Bob Berry & Steve Wilhite, claim that this soft “g” sound is used. At some point one of them said, “Choosy programmers choose GIF,” a play on the peanut butter commercials where “Choosy moms choose Jif.” It can also use multiple images for animated effects (animated GIFs).” In short, that translates to it being a static image or mini movie and kind of a combination of both. Short and sweet.
Anyway, many are amusing and if you don’t have the time to watch lengthier cat videos, which according to statistics are good for your productivity at work, the GIF may be the answer. To be extra clever in the office, put this, GIPHY, on your Bookmarks Bar. If you don’t know what a Bookmarks Bar is, find someone under 20…or younger.
