Mydia, settling in a couple of days after she was rescued and given a loving home.

Mydia is a little survivor who was rescued and adopted by a woman who spotted her off the side of the interstate during a snowstorm earlier this month. The vet says Mydia was thrown from a car.

Sabrina Berg rescued Mydia, and tells her story:

On Tuesday February 11, 2014 my son Zach and I were driving from Harrisburg, NC to south Charlotte, NC (about 25 miles) to try and locate 3 stray cats that a friend of mine had been feeding for the past 8 months who had gone missing all of a sudden.

On the drive down we were on Interstate 485 and I noticed a small black object in the median, which my son said was probably a shoe. It had been snowing for a couple of hours which is why I was able to spot the object. I quickly swerved off the interstate since there was an exit about 50 feet from the kitten, turned around and headed back north and as I passed the “black object” I noticed it had ears. Drove 4 miles to the first exit, turned around and headed back North.

I pulled off into the median, had no towel, blanket or food but had brought some cat treats, so I took the treats and slowly walked up to the left side of the kitten. I was petrified it would run out into traffic. Luckily it had it’s back to me and to the noise of the traffic it couldn’t hear me approach until I got close enough to call out to it. I got down on my hands and knees and slowly crawled over to it until I got close enough to pet the side of it’s face. Then I began to pet her back. When she didn’t resist I took off my scarf and lied the end of it on her back because the poor thing was completely soaked and the temperature outside was around 28 degrees. Finally I scooped her up and wrapped her in the scarf. She didn’t resist me at all.

We then went to look for the stray kitties (which we couldn’t find) and then took the rescue kitty to our vet. They said she appeared to have been thrown from a car based on her injuries. Her nails on her front paws had been ripped along with her paw pads and had a cut under her eye. She is approximately 6 months old, not been fixed, FIV free and relatively in good health. So she is our 7th rescue kitty in less than 2 years.

We named her Mydia after a mythical Persian princess who represented love and survival!

Sandra’s son captured the rescue with his phone:

  1. Thank you for being alert and taking the risk to rescue this kitty. How horrible for her. Enjoyed your commentary Zack, particularly when you said the kitty was about to become your 7th cat! I am guessing you’ll be rescuing kitties in your lifetime as well.

  2. Thank you both so much for savig this precious life. It’s people like you that make this world a better place for all.
