Kristen Farese and her family moved from Florida to Kentfield, California in August of 2011, and their grey and white kitty Lily escaped from her carrier at the strange new house a week later. Kristin and her family were distraught over the missing cat; they put up fliers and contacted the Marin Humane Society but there was no word on Lily, who had been microchipped back in Florida.
Just over a year after she’d gotten out from her unfamiliar new home, the four year old missing kitty was found in Novato, California, 18 miles north of Kentfield, on September 27. The person who found Lily brought her to the Marin Humane Society where a microchip scan identified her. Lily’s info traced her back to Florida but the Farese family’s new address was on file, so the shelter sent a letter informing them that Lily had been found and was waiting for them to pick her up.
“My 9-year-old daughter has asked about Lily every week at bedtime,” Kristen told the Marin Independent Journal. “When I told her I got this letter, she started crying, she was so happy.”
Kristen visited the shelter on Tuesday afternoon, where she and Lily were reunited.
