A Miami, Florida Fire Rescue crew saved a little kitten stuck in a storm drain after a Good Samaritan heard its cries and called for help.

Montrell Johnson heard the kitten’s cries coming up from beneath a strom drain off Biscayne Boulevard and 39th Street at about 5pm on Wednesday and called the Fire Rescue service for help. About a dozen responders came to the scene to look for the kitten and make the rescue.

Two City of Miami firefighters put on protective gear and went down the drain. They located the kitten after following its cries.

Johnson stayed to watch the rescue, and said, “I was happy that it was still alive, first of all, because there was no telling how long it was down there, so I’m just happy they got it out of there. I think they should name it Lucky because it’s a very lucky cat right now.”

After the kitten was brought to safety, covered in a thick coating of muck from the drain, fire rescue cleaned it off and brought it to Miami Fire Rescue Station Number Six. The kitten has since been adopted by a city employee.
