Springtime means kitten season, when shelters and rescuers take on the task of caring for babies who have been separated from their mothers for one reason or another. Young kittens need round the clock care and feeding from foster caregivers and shelter staff. Sprinkles is one such kitten, who is getting the usual level of care, plus more, since she came into the world with a damaged leg that requires medical attention.
The San Diego Humane Society is caring for Sprinkles and shared a series of beautiful photos with the sweet baby in the purple leg wrap cast at Facebook, writing:
“Each spring we open our kitten nursery to begin caring for orphaned kittens that require 24-hour monitoring, feeding and attention. This year, one of our first residents is Sprinkles, a little girl who needed urgent medical care. She came to us severely injured; we believe her umbilical cord wrapped around her rear leg and cut off her circulation.
“At such a tender young age, with her eyes still closed, Sprinkles was in a delicate condition. It was vital that we were able to nourish her so she could begin the healing process. Currently, Sprinkles is wearing a cast on what remains of her back leg. Veterinarians plan to perform an amputation of her injured limb once she is old enough for the surgery.
“We will keep you up to date on Sprinkles’ journey as she travels her path to recovery.”

It’s now May 3. Please, what happened to her? If I had been anywhere near your joint I’d have rushed down to adopt her. She’s have been the perfect soul’s companion, not only for me, but for my kitty Sarah who would really like to be a mommy, but that ain’t gonna happen. Sarah was a rescue, too, though not a shelter. We found each other outside my apartment where she had been abandoned and fell immediately in love. But gosh I want to know what happened to this little beauty. Please let us know.
