A little dog named Pooka in Battle Ground, Washington has adopted a litter of kittens found in a barn and is raising them as her own. The babies were left alone by their mother, who did come back for them.
The 9-year-old Chihuahua-dachshund mix dog had a litter of puppies four years ago, and was able to produce milk and nurse after the kittens suckled for a while.
Petmom Linda Smith said, “She wanted them. I mean she just went crazy. I was trying to feed one of them with the milk and she had a hold of its back end, trying to pull it out of my hand. So that’s when I knew I had to give them to her because she wasn’t going to leave them alone.”
The kittens are reportedly gaining weight and doing well.
