A lesser known breed to many, the beautiful Li Hua, which is pronounced lee-wah, is a native of China. A smart cat who can bond strongly to people, is athletic with big paws and a muscular tail.  Distinctive to this breed, according to an article on Vet Street, is a “tiny black spot on the corner of the mouth extends the line of the mouth, giving the impression that the cat is smiling.”

The cat is termed a “natural breed,” a hybrid of two or more breeds.  While it was once recognized as an experimental breed, when first exhibited, it was officially recognized by The Cat Fanciers’ Association  and shown in the miscellaneous class. The Li Hua, however, never caught on and is no longer eligible for championship status.

Still, the cat is very popular in China and it is easy to see why from the stunning coloration and markings to the little smile, the Li Hua is one special cat.
