Leon ended up safe and sound at the Dane County Humane Society after riding along with a Michigan couple traveling through Wisconsin. Because Leon has ID his family was located and he’ll be going back home.
Fortunately, Leon was unscathed after the 300 mile trip that brought him to Madison Wisconsin. The couple whose car he hitched a ride in heard meowing during a stop but didn’t realize it was coming from their car, then heard the sound again 100 miles later, when they finally realized a cat was on board.
The Dane County Humane Society was able to find Leon’s family easily because he has identification. They say that most cats coming to their shelter do not have ID, and the Humane Society will offer reduced rates for tags and microchips next week during National Pet ID Week.
