Tramp was rescued when Cats Protection UK responded to a call about a “big vicious cat” and instead found the missing 12 year old Maine Coon cat. Simple detective work brought him back home.
Janet and Tramp, back together again
Janet Bishop and her husband Richard only had Tramp about a month before he went missing. They rehomed him from a breeder in 2010 when he was about 10 years old; then, Tramp and another new cat spent much of the first month at their new home in a secure cat run.
Still disoriented from the major change in his life, Tramp ran away almost immediately after being let out of the cat run and the Bishops didn’t see him again. Unbeknownst to them, Tramp remained nearby, getting some measure of care from a local resident.
Janet, who owns Doggies and Moggies pet supply store in Falmouth, looked for Tramp for several months, calling for him and searching the surrounding neighborhoods and fields, then eventually gave up hope of finding him again.
The call to Cat’s Protection about the huge beast resulted in Tramp being trapped and getting a microchip scan. His chip was registered in Germany, so was of little help, other than giving some clues as to his history. The Bishops are known locally for having Maine Coon cats, so Cats Protection contacted them to ask if Tramp was theirs.
Janet said she never expected the cat to be Tramp, but that she recognized him immediately. Other than needing treatment for his eyes and being matted, Tramp was well fed and seemingly okay after his ordeal.
Doggies and Moggies now has a donation box to benefit Falmouth and Helston Cats Protection, which needs funds and foster caregivers. Janet is grateful to Cats Protection and to the person who helped Tramp while he was missing. She says it’s lovely to have him back with her again.
How wonderful! A Maine Coon Cat, lost for quite a while, is reunited with his pet mom and dad. It took a bit of detective work but luck was on his side and he’s back home now. Always glad to read a feel good story!!
