The Cat Show just closed.  It wasn’t your traditional kind of cat show, with all the participants brushed, combed, and at ready to be judged.  Rather, this was an art show where all the pieces on display had been brushed, airbrushed or were created in other form of medium to create works featuring cats.  For those with allergies, particularly with spring in the air, this kind of show was probably most welcomed.  Pollen, aside, Susan Michals, founder and curator of the show, told Leo Duran, for Take Two, 89.3 KPCC, “There is some art that’s definitely kitschy, but the whole goal was to have a wide spectrum of art,” she shared. “Those people that are doing the cat fancy show are the old guard. My whole thing is that you can be chic, stylish and have a cat simultaneously.”

Michals is also behind CatConLA which debuted in June of last year and is partnering with the Internet Cat Video Festival which was recently renamed CatVideoFest.  Her goal is to see all these cat-centric events be held over a single weekend, and, as she puts it, “…like SXSW for cats.”

At the Cat Art Show site it is also shares that a portion of the proceeds from the all the artwork sales was going to Kitten Rescue of Los Angeles.  Look at good works.  Buy good works.  Do good works.  Seems like the perfect kind of art show for any cat lover.
