Members of the Liberty Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, of rural Johnson County, Texas, took time away from their holiday weekend on the 4th of July and went all out to rescue a little kitten trapped underground.

The VFD posted photos and a short description of the rescue to Facebook that day, writing: “Some photos from our kitty rescue this AM on CR 314.

“A small kitten had gotten stuck in a drain pipe underground after a few test holes to locate the pipe the pipe was opened and the kitten removed with no injuries.”

The kitten had become trapped in an underground storm drain near a swimming pool on the property of the homeowner who called for help. When the firefighters were unable to trace the end of the drain pipe they had to dig up the lawn for about 20 feet before they located the kitten, who they gently removed from the pipe and returned to the homeowner, the Cleburne Times-Review reported.

The Cleburne Times-Review reported that Liberty Chapel Chief Jack Watson said the kitten appeared to be unharmed and doing well after being pulled from the underground pipe.
