A dog and kitten that lost their home were reunited in a heart-warming encounter caught on video at a California animal center recently. And there’s more good news! Ami the dog and Mikaela the kitten have both been adopted by a loving family. The 18-month-old dog and 9-month old kitten were put into separate cages after their family dropped them off at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, center spokeswoman Jessica Gercke told NBC affiliate Channel 4 of Southern California. The two belonged to a family that had to leave the country and decided the pair would be better off being adopted than undergoing a lengthy quarantine, according to the NBC report.

The video shows Ami wagging her tail excitedly as soon as she as see spies Mikaela in a pet carrier. When the kitten emerges from the carrier, Ami covers her face with big wet kisses.

According to Gercke, Ami and Mikaela have been virtually inseparable since the two bonded when their former family first brought the tiny tabby home.  The nice people at the Helen Woodward Animal Center decided the two pals should only go to a family that would adopt both the dog and cat. It wasn’t long before the NBC report aired and a family came forward who had room in their hearts and home for both Ami and Mikaela. The center posted this lovely photo on their Facebook page. We just love happy endings.
