He’s been called a bit of a legend by travel writers. King the beach cat is a champagne-colored tabby who is well known to visitors to Brighton Beach in Australia.
He belongs to a local family that lives in the affluent beach-side suburb of Melbourne, according to a report in Adelaidnow.com.  And he’s the special companion of an 8-year-old girl named Milly.
Let’s just say that King gets around. He can be found lounging seaside or socializing with jetty walks and alfresco diners on Jetty Road. He was recently profiled on a popular blog, Traveling Cats.

Milly said that King, who is tagged, can sometimes go missing for a day or two and then come back when he is hungry. Mostly, Milly says she can find him on the beach.

“I find it a bit strange because most cats are scared of water but there’s a lot of it here,” Milly told Adelaidnow.com. “Normally, if we’re here with him, a lot of people come and ask if we can pat your cat – it’s just so funny.”

He does spend some time at home with Milly and the family pooch.

Brighton Jetty Bakery co-owner Dahlia Makkar says King is well known around Brighton. “He’s a bit of a character – everyone is cat-friendly here,”  Makkar said.
