A Henrico County, Virginia firefighter was all smiles as he posed with a kitten his crew had just rescued.

The firefighters were asked to help by a motorist when she realized a kitty had become trapped in the suspension of her car.

The kitten, now called Axil, is safe at the Henrico County Animal Shelter and will be available for adoption by July 23. He has been determined to be about 8 weeks old.  As the sweet photo above was shared locally and the story spread, there were several offers to give kitty a home. The shelter reminds people that there are lots of other kitties at the shelter who also need good homes.

Henrico County Division of Fire wrote at Facebook Tuesday, telling the story: “At 9:30 this morning a local resident pulled into the Glenwood Farms Firehouse in Henrico’s North Side with an unusual problem. A small kitten had become stuck in the wheel well of her car. The firefighters went out to the parking lot to see if they could assist. After getting the assistance of Technical Rescue Team at a neighboring station, they were able to remove the wheel and parts of the cars suspension to remove the kitten. The kitten was unharmed in the entire process and turned over to Henrico Animal Protection for evaluation.”

Captain Will Aiken spoke with WRIC TV News, saying: “A citizen came by the fire station and told us that she had a cat that was stuck underneath her car.

“We were able to lift the car up and remove the tire and we were able to access the kitten and with a little bit of work and a little smiling, we were able to get the kitten out with no injuries.

“It was a lighthearted moment [when the kitten was successfully rescued], the kitten wasn’t injured and it was just neat to be able to do it and everybody got out without any injuries.”
