The “grumpy” North Carolina shelter cat who looks like a less furry Colonel Meow found a home after his adoption photo went viral.

The New Hanover, North Carolina Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit called the kitty their own Grumpy Cat based on his expression, a combination scowl and pout. Kitty’s appearance was enhanced by the neatly shaped fur surrounding his face. He had been so matted when he came in to the shelter as a stray he had to be shaved.

The New Hanover Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit wrote at Facebook on February 28, saying: “This intense fellow is looking to find his forever family! We’re not sure he’s really thrilled with us at the moment because when he came to us he was really matted so we had to shave off his fur. Once his fur grows back, we think he’ll be feeling more like the Persian royalty he knows he is! This great cat is 2 years old and was found as a stray. He’s got a loving personality.”

Local TV station WECT helped to publicize the grumpy looking cat, helping him to go viral.

Lots of people wanted to adopt the striking looking fellow with the loving personality, but the shelter said he should go to a home without other cats after they observed that he did not seem to get along with them.

The shelter announced on March 4 that the kitty had found a home. He was adopted by Shaina Poore and her family.
