A 2-3 month old fluffy black and white kitten is recuperating at an animal hospital after being tossed onto the side of a busy road by a driver Monday morning. The kitten was rescued and taken to get help by a good Samaritan who witnessed the incident.
Framingham, MA resident Richard Bertone was driving on a local stretch of Route 9, a busy secondary highway, Monday morning when he saw the female driver of a black BMW with California plates throw something over the curb . Mr. Bertone says he didn’t realize at first that he’d witnessed a kitten being tossed. When he saw that it was a crying kitten walking awkwardly and with a bloodied nose, he scooped up the little victim using his gloved hands and a shirt he had in the car and took her to the Family Pet Hospital in Ashland.
The kitten was dirty and scared when she came to the hospital, but is doing well. She is being treated for road rash and will have surgery for a broken leg. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Family Pet Hospital announced at Facebook early Tuesday evening that there is already a long list of potential adopters for the kitten, saying: “Thank you so much for all of the support for this sweet little girl!!! Right now she is still recovering and we just want to emphasize that she is not ready for adoption yet. There is already quite a long list compiled for this girl. If you are thinking of adopting a kitten or cat, please research your local shelter. Even though the cats there may not have had quite as bad of an experience as her, they still need loving family homes as well!”
