Mrs. Gourary’s collection of cat related works ranges across four centuries and includes many books, along with artworks in a variety of media, including paintings, drawings, etchings, engravings, lithographs and woodblock prints.

According to a story on the auction at Hyperallergic, Marianne Gourary and her husband Paul lived in New York City, where they were both Fellows of the Morgan Library and participated in programs at the Metropolitan Museum, the Cooper-Hewitt, and the Grolier Club. Mrs. Gourary, a cat lover, passed away last year at the age of 93.
The collection includes many well known books and works by well known artists.
