Formerly fat cat Tiny was dropped off in a box at the Ferdericton, NB SPCA in December 2011. The SPCA tells how they discovered him: “Tiny came to the Fredericton SPCA Animal Shelter on December 30th 2011. He was taped up in a cardboard box with another much smaller cat, Rapunzel, and left in the shelter lobby. At first we thought the box was full of donations of computer paper, cat treats, etc. but then the box meowed. We were shocked to see what was inside; 2 cats Tiny and Rapunzel. During his initial health check Tiny weighed in at 30.2 lbs, the largest cat we have ever seen! ”
Tiny went into home foster care with Nancy Garon and on January 12, 2012 began a weight loss and fitness plan under the supervision of Dr. Dr. Nicole Jewett of Valley Veterinary Hospital. Tiny’s plan included a diet of MediCal Calorie Control food – 3 cans of wet food and 1/4 cup of dry kibble daily, with at least two, 15min. play sessions for exercise a day. Tiny enjoys chasing feather wands and laser pointers the best. He is also an armchair ornithologist.
By mid-August, Tiny’s successful plan reached a milestone when he broke the 20 pound mark for the first time. He has shed a few more pounds since then and now weighs about half of what he did a year ago. We posted Formerly 30 Pound Cat Tiny Hits Weight Loss Milestone when tiny’s achievement was announced.
The Tiny’s Weight Loss Challenge Facebook page allowed people from all over to follow Tiny’s progress, and the page also helped to promote the fundraiser that has raised thousands of dollars for a fund to help other cats. Much of the money was raised through sales at the Tiny’s Ties Etsy store.
As far as we know, the Facebook page will remain active. Tiny is seen below modeling his new Valentine’s Day 2012 edition bow tie.
