Dottie spent most of her life in shelters before finally finding her forever home this week.  Her friends at Cat Depot, in Sarasota, Florida pulled out all the stops to help her find a loving family, and their efforts paid off when a couple adopted Dottie and brought her home to join their other pets.

Dottie’s friends – shelter staff and friends of the shelter – cried happy tears when Dottie finally went home. Followers of Cat Depot at Facebook had become well acquainted with Dottie as she looked for her forever home.

Cat Depot tells Dottie’s story here and in the video below:

Prior to coming to Cat Depot, Dottie spent two years in another shelter. She came to Cat Depot when she was three years old. That was over two years ago. That means that the diminutive five year old with the trademark black dot on her nose spent the majority of her life inside the walls of animal shelters.

In April of this year, Dottie began her crusade to find a loving home. For 18 weeks she told her story and entertained her followers with her attempts to get noticed. It was a long journey filled with new hobbies, “bug” hunting, modeling, supervising, 911 phone call attempts and a new pen pal. Dottie even challenged her readers to either adopt her, or donate to Cat Depot in her D.A.M.N. (Dottie’s Adopt Me Now) Campaign.

This week, Dottie’s dream finally came true; her forever parents came to take her home. Her mom and dad adopted another Cat Depot kitty a few years ago, and they also have one other cat. Dottie left Cat Depot to much fanfare and headed off with her family to meet her new brothers.

Dottie sent a “letter” to her good friends, which Cat Depot posted at facebook:

A New Home. A New Name. A New Start.

Hello from my forever home!

I arrived safe and sound and I’m enjoying exploring. So many new things to check out!

My mom and dad have made sure that I’m comfortable and are letting me adjust at my own pace. They even let me choose my own room. It has a window!

Oh, and I have a new name! They call me Harley (as in Harley Quinn). I like it. It’s all part of my fresh new start – new home, new name, new life!

I have two brothers. They let me use one of their beds (that was nice of them), but they have kept their distance from me for now (that’s nice of them too). And I have my new bed from my goodie bag. So I have two beds! I’m a very lucky kitty.

To all the Cat Depot kitties waiting for homes – hang in there. Your day will come. Mine did. And so will yours.

Love,
Harley (aka Dottie)

  1. Happy tears!!! She is a beautiful cat and I’m so glad she found a great home. So sad to think how many other cats are in the same situation as Dottie.
