About half the house cats in the UK are overweight. To help them trim down, some owners are trying a meal plan that copies life in the wild.

Colin used to be too heavy for his own good. So his owners decided to make a few changes, according to a video report by the BBC. “We’re feeding more but little and often.”

Instead of three meals a day, Colin gets five smaller meals. And he also has been given toys that require him to work for his cat chow. All of this is intended to mirror life in the wild, where hunting keeps cats active.

Now he’s sleeping less, playing more, and “he’s a little bit more interested in what’s going on around him.”
