Andy Newman was intrigued by the fact cats garner so much attention in the media. To his surprise, he uncovered this phenomenon was happening long before ramping up top numbers on YouTube, Vine, Tumblr, and Pinterest. In fact, his research lead him into the New York Times archives and some interesting discoveries.

His article, Cat Exploits, Long Before YouTube, shares a peek into some of the feline-driven headlines from the 19th and 20th Centuries.  With headlines like,  A Cat Hatches Chicks (Sept. 21, 1879), Haunting an Organ (Feb. 18, 1902),  A Cat That Rained Turnips (Oct. 23, 1911), and the like, it is an interesting and, yes, very entertaining read.
