“Thomas” as he is being called was found by surprised railway workers, clinging to the underside of a freight train that had traveled from Southampton to Cardiff, Wales, UK. He is unhurt and is in the care of the RSPCA.
Other than being somewhat frightened, the cat was miraculously unharmed after his long nonstop train trip. Based on his condition and behavior, the RSPCA feels he is someone’s cat and would like to reunite him with his family. The cat is not microchipped.
RSPCA Cymru reported on their blog
The RSPCA were recently called out to collect a young male cat found clinging to the underside of a freight train which had travelled from Southampton to Cardiff with no stops in between.
The male black domestic shorthair with white chest tuft, who has been christened ‘Thomas’ due to his train escapade, was found at the end of his ‘journey’ by a worker at the Freightliner Limited dockyards on Newlands Road in Cardiff.
The caller was able to confine Thomas at his workplace until the RSPCA arrived. Despite his unbelievable journey, Thomas had no obvious injuries and seemed in good health, if a little frightened.
He was then taken to the RSPCA’s Merthyr Tydfil Clinic for vaccinations and a vet check and is now in boarding.
RSPCA inspector Simon Evans said: “What a story! This cat has surely used up almost all of his lives by now and it is still quite unbelievable what he has gone through.
“Despite being understandably a little shaken after his escapade, Thomas really is a lovely and friendly cat and although he’s not microchipped he’s in good health and so we are wondering if there is an owner out there looking for him.
“We are therefore appealing for anyone who recognises the description or picture of Thomas, especially from the Southampton or quite possibly the Cardiff area, to come forward and get in touch with us.”
Raw video footage shows handsome “Thomas”, who seems slightly afraid and disoriented. The RSPCA would like to return him to his home and family.
I am so glad he was unhurt and I hope he gets a great home soon.
