One of two cats who were rescued from the notorious Yulin Dog and Cat Meat Festival in China this past summer is with a Washington, DC animal organization and is looking for a good home.

Yulu is seen in the background of a haunting photo that went viral around the time of the festival. She is the orange and white cat at the far left of the ‘before’ portion of the before and after photo seen below. That photo is a  cropped version of the original, which was used by Humane Society International to bring attention to the plight of the dogs and cats – many of them stolen pets – who are transported in to be butchered for the event . Huru, the white cat clinging to the side of the cage in the foreground of the photo was also rescued and has found a home.

Both cats were already in the butcher’s chamber awaiting their deaths when rescuer Peter Li, with Humane Society International, secured their freedom.

Yulu and Huru traveled to the US and came under the care of the Washington Animal Rescue League, in DC.

Yulu is described as being somewhat shy but very sweet. She is also a very beautiful little cat, and one who deserves a good and loving home, especially considering the horrors she experienced being rounded up with hundreds of other animals and then witnessing some of their deaths at the hands of the butcher.

WARL shared Yulu’s photo to Facebook on October 13, writing:

Yulu was rescued from being butchered during the Yulin Meat Festival in China by Humane Society International. This pretty four-year-old is very sweet but quite timid…not surprising, given the horrors she experienced. She’s looking for a special adopter who is willing to give her love, a little space, and time to discover the joy that comes with being a beloved feline companion.

As of this writing, Yulu’s adoption profile remains active HERE.
