Sometimes miracles happen, even in the unlikeliest of circumstances. Six days after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake all but destroyed the town called Amatrice in Italy, a cat was rescued from the rubble – alive.
Firefighters were digging in the rubble when they made the amazing discovery. And while the cat was dehydrated, she had no other serious injuries.
The cat’s name is Gioia, which means “Joy” in Italian. Firefighters gave Gioia water at the scene of the rescue, and later Gioia was reunited with her owner, Daniela Tursini. Tursini had not left the rubble which was once her home, hoping that by some miracle, Gioia would be discovered alive. Thankfully, her unyielding hope paid off.
