When Sandra Dick of White Rock, Canada lost her home to a fire, she thought she also lost her cat, Cabo. Dick awoke to the smell of burning plastic and set about trying to find the source. As she searched, Cabo ran out the door, and Dick soon had to evacuate her home when she realized that fire was quickly spreading through her condo building.

More than 100 people in the condo building lost their homes to the fire, but thankfully only two people were injured. Though Dick searched for Cabo, she was eventually forced to leave the scene. She spent two days putting up “lost cat” signs, hoping that someone would find her cat.

Luckily for both Cabo and Dick, a rookie firefighter made a very special discovery two days after the fire. While in Dick’s master bedroom, firefighter Matt Meneghin, who just joined the force three months ago, found Cabo cowering between the bed and the dresser. Meneghin, an animal lover who has a dog and a cat of his own, was happy to make the discovery, and soon Cabo and Dick were reunited.

Currently Cabo and Dick are staying with relatives. While Dick lost her possessions and home to the fire, she’s lucky to have been reunited with Cabo, who is truly irreplaceable.
