A cat has been rescued after getting herself stuck on top of a very steep roof. Her microchip helped her get back home right away.

The black cat was spotted on the roof of a Merlin Crescent home in Townhill, Swansea, Wales UK last Thursday morning, September 10, and the RSPCA and Mid and West Wales Fire & Rescue Service were called to help.

Firefighters used a ladder to reach the scared kitty – and brought her down to safety.

RSPCA inspectors Neill Manley and Nic De Celis were then on hand to check her over.

“The fire service did a great job of bringing her down safely,” said inspector Manley.

“She was uninjured and had been just a bit frightened when she couldn’t get down from the roof. Unfortunately there was no way of her getting down by herself due to the height.

“The cat – named Kiki – was luckily microchipped and we were able to track down her owners.

“We gave her a bit of food and returned to her to owner’s address. There was another cat there who looked like either her sister or daughter.”

Kiki’s owner Anna Smith said she was completely baffled to how KiKi – who is two-and-a-half years old – could have got onto a roof of a house.

“I don’t know how she could have got up there,” she said. “I am just glad she was brought down safely. I have got both my cats microchipped. They are our babies.

“When I saw Kiki that day she was just meowing as usual.”

The RSPCA would like to remind people to get their pets microchipped to give their lost pets the chance of returning home. It is also important to register the chip with a national database and update your contact details if you move or change phone number.

If you do see a cat stuck up a tree or on a roof, the RSPCA recommends that you monitor them – as it may well be that they are able to make their own way down. It can be when they are given time and space they find their way down. Often it helps if they are left alone as crowds and people may stress and panic them.
