A burned cat rescued from the wildfires affecting thousands of acres in Washington state is improving in the care of staff at a veterinary hospital.

The cat, who is being called Alta, was rescued from the Alta Lake Golf Course last weekend by a Good Samaritan and brought to WASART (Washington State Animal Response Team) in Chelan. She was transferred to Lake Chelan Veterinary Hospital Sunday afternoon.

Staff at the veterinary hospital found the black and white injured kitty with no tail to be friendly and trusting. She responded to treatment and was showing improvement by the following day.

Lake Chelan Veterinary Hospital gave an update on Alta at Facebook on Monday, saying: “Fire rescue kitty from the Alta lake area is doing so much better today! She’s talking, eating a bit, and responding well to treatment and loves from our staff. Swelling in her face has gone down, enabling her to see a bit in her left eye and breathe through her nose easier. We are hoping each day to see such improvement!”

A commenter at the hospital’s Facebook page knows Alta and her family and says that her name is – or was – Nubbs. The commenter continues:  “I was fortunate enough to visit Nubbs yesterday at the hospital with the rest of her family. The vet tech holding her is absolutely wonderful! Nubbs is getting the best care with lots of love and hugs. Unfortunately Nubb’s mama lost her home and isn’t able to give her the care that she needs. She’s very sad that she can’t keep her, but is very happy that the couple who rescued her are very anxious to give her a wonderful home with lots of love to nurse her back to health. Thanks to a group of wonderful people, both the staff of the hospital and the rescuers.”

The hospital gave another positive update on Alta today, which you can see below.
